About the artist:
Eleanor Allitt is an English painter/illustrator and storyteller. She originally trained as a textile designer, then went on to study fine art with the artists Edward Bawden and Cecil Collings. She has held one-man shows and had work accepted at many galleries including the Royal Academy and the Royal Watercolour Society. In recent years, she became interested in myth, in particular ancient Sumerian myth, which resulted in the publication of a picture book about Inanna and her descent into the underworld.

About this work:
The artist was deeeply moved by the story of Inanna and went to the British Museum to find out more about this intriguing woman. She was amazed at the beauty of the artefacts, and these formed a central point of reference for her subsequent artwork. She seeks to portray the ancient myth in terms that are relevant to our lives today.
