BISI Study Day

“May Your City Drink Water A-Plenty”—this line from the Sumerian myth of Enki and Ninhursag was the motto for a Study Day organised by the British Institute for the Study of Iraq (BISI) and the Department of History at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).

A programme of fascinating talks looked at the importance of water in shaping the history and culture of ancient, medieval and modern Iraq. “Enki” bottled water labelled with a delightful image of the Sumerian god of fresh water and wisdom was on offer at the ZIPANG stall alongside CDs and books of stories from ancient Iraq.
