The Sumerian class
at Birkbeck College in London taught by Frans van Koppen
is this term translating the text of Lugalbanda and the
Anzud Bird.
A short introduction to this story was
provided by ZIPANG storyteller Fran Hazelton, using as
visual aids an image of the Anzud Bird drawn from a
statue as old as the story itself and modern ear-rings
conveying its terrifying character.
“I will have
breath-taking statues made of you, the Anzud Bird, to
adorn the temples of the dingirs. Your name will be famous forever throughout the land of Sumer!”
